Young Parents and Family Services

Provided by St Leonard's Youth & Family Services Society (STLEO)

Provides various services to families and young parents in need of support.
The following programs are offered:
  • SMILE: Helps young parents experience a healthy pregnancy and to provide the education and support a young parent needs to prepare for childbirth and raising their child(ren). The SMILE program builds on the personal strengths of young mothers and fathers to help them develop confidence in their ability to become a good parent.
  • Supervised Access: Provides a safe, caring environment for children in care to connect with their families. Staff are available to bring children from their caregivers to visit sites within the community. The supervised visit staff may provide parenting coaching and information about child development. The intent is to encourage a meaningful positive connection for families. Referral required from the Ministry of Children and Family Development.
  • Child and Youth Access: Helps children, youth and families deal with mental health issues, including behavioral, psychological, and emotional challenges. The program provides timely, appropriate and effective assistance that respects and promotes the independence and self-determination of participants. The program provides individual and family counselling and assessment, crisis intervention, consultation with parents, caregivers and professionals and psychological assessment. Referral required from the Ministry of Children and Family Development.
  • Family Development: The Family Development Program is flexible and responsive, offering services within the family that address specific needs. Family Development Program staff help the family determine its own strengths and direction, and support the family in making practical and lasting change. Referral required from the Ministry of Children and Family Development.
